Paul Harrington’s first original recording in two years will be released on Friday 10th May. With a music career that has already spanned over 20 years, Paul Harrington is easily a household name not just here at home, but also many countries across the continent. Paul has a unique gift for connecting with his audience, whether it’s a packed concert hall or intimate piano bar. He is not just a gifted vocalist and pianist but a born entertainer. The lead track from his new EP “Grow Old With Me” features the beautiful sounds of the RTE Concert Orchestra. “I adore this song”, says Paul. He continued, “It is a pleasure & a privilege to have the RTE Concert Orchestra feature and indeed a real treat for me to have live strings on the recording.”
“Grow Old With Me” was written by Paul’s long time friend and guitarist, Bill Shanley with lyrics by the very talented Brian Kennedy. Paul will be touring this year with his band to mark the release. The first of these live shows is being held at Dublin’s Sugar Club on Monday 13th May. I was keen to have a launch gig in Dublin & as it turns out its also my birthday, so it will be a double celebration and I can’t wait! From his debut album, Paul’s talent was obvious. ‘What I’d Say’ charted Top 10 when released in 1991, and with it arrived a swell of good attention to this Dublin born singer, songwriter and musician.
Other album highlights during his career include ‘Paul Harrington – A Collection’ & ‘Songs’, the latter of which also entered Top 10 in the album charts on release in 2010 following a stunning performance on The Late Late Show together with very strong retail support. In 1994 Paul’s career reached a whole new level when he represented Ireland & won the Eurovision Song Contest with his good friend, Charlie McGettigan. The song ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Kids’ is one of the most popular to ever win Eurovision and is still a regular feature on Irelands airwaves today. He has given private performances for, amongst others, the Rolling Stones, Prince, U2 and Julia Roberts. In the late nineties Paul was the performer of choice for many of the A-list celebrities that would frequent the VIP Room in Dublin’s most prestigious nightspot, Lillies Bordello.
Here he would regularly entertain, and quite often be joined by, stars from the world of music, film and television. It was here that Michael Flatley re-connected with Paul since the 1994 Eurovision. Michael created a role for Paul as principal singer in his dance extravaganza ‘Celtic Tiger’. The show saw Paul performing in stadia and arenas across the globe. More recently just ahead of recording his new EP, Paul joined fellow Irish Eurovision winners for a national tour of Ireland in October 2012. The tour was filmed and the resulting documentary was broadcast on RTE 1 Television as part of the RTE Reality Bites series. Paul frequently entertains on weekends at the spectacular Carton House in Co. Kildare.
